Suffolk killer lodges appeal

[20th March 2008]

Steve Wright, who was jailed for life for murdering five prostitutes in February, has made an application to appeal against the convictions.

The application has been sent to the Court of Appeal, according to Ipswich Crown Court.

Jurors unanimously found him guilty of all five murders after a six-week trial. The bodies of Gemma Adams, Tania Nicol, Anneli Alderton, Paula Clennell and Annette Nicholls were found over a ten-day period near Ipswich in 2006.

In his letter to the Court of Appeal, Wright claims that the trial should not have been held in Ipswich, that his defence team did not represent him adequately, that evidence against him doesn't tally up and that the police did not investigate other suspects properly.
