120 per cent rise in victims of knife crime

The number of children admitted to NHS hospitals in London with knife wounds has risen dramatically between 2003 and 2008.

According to the BBC, hospital admissions of 16 to 18 year olds with knife wounds rose from 129 in 2003/04 to 238 in 2007/08. The number of children under 16 with knife wounds rose from 34 in 2003/04 to 75 in 2007/08.

Justin Greening, the MP who obtained the figures said: "We all know of the tragic cases where people actually die from their wounds, but for every one of those there are up to 14 cases where teenagers are going to hospital for treatment but perhaps not going it to police."
