Girl crime rises 25 per cent

The number of crimes committed by girls has increased by 25% in three years.

The Youth Justice Board said that girls committed 59,000 offences in 2006/07, which was 12,000 more than in 2003/04. Boys still commit substantially more crime, although there was a 2% reduction in the number of crimes committed by boys over the same period.

In particular, girls are committing minor assaults, robberies, public order offences and criminal damage.
