Knife crime survey results

The British Crime Survey (BCS) suggests that knife crime has not worsened over the last ten years, contrary to Home Office statistics.

The BCS suggests that 8% of all violent crime involves knives, which has been the case for the last ten years. However, Home Office statistics show that the number of murders involving a sharp instrument increased from 197 in 1996 to 258 in 2006-07. In London, 27 teenagers were murdered last year and 13 have been killed so far this year.
