Rings stolen from woman in Thurlaston
Police are investigating an allegation of a theft following an incident at the A47 car boot on Desford Road, Thurlaston, on Sunday morning. [22 May 2012]
The incident happened between 9.15am and 10am on Sunday May 20, when the 49-year-old victim was approached by a woman as she sat in her car, a grey Toyota Yaris.
The woman had got out of a grey saloon car that was parked next to the victim’s in the car park and opened the door to the victim’s car.
She then proceeded to remove the victim’s rings from her hands, including her wedding and engagement ring and a ring given to her by her late mother-in-law, replacing them with other metal rings.
When the victim requested that she hand her rings back the woman placed another of the metal rings in her hand and placed a chain on her chest. She then walked back to her car and drove off with two other men and a second woman.
The suspect has been described as being a plump, Eastern European woman, approximately 46-years-old, about 5’3” tall wearing a grey headscarf, a black cardigan and black dress.
PC Rob Weston, the investigating officer, said: “The woman removed the victim’s rings and when the victim asked her to replace them and threatened to call police, she quickly left”.
“The victim was understandably upset and angry by the incident and is desperate to get her rings back. If you were at the car boot sale that day and remember seeing the woman described then please call us as soon as you can.”
