Officers were called to reports of a disturbance at an address in Lozells Road, Birmingham, at 9am, West Midlands Police said.
The body of a man, believed to be a Lithuanian national, was discovered at the property.
A police spokesman said the six people arrested are all Lithuanian and are being questioned at stations across the force area.
Lozells Road has been closed between Heathfield Road and Mayfield Road while forensic experts examine the scene.
Detective Inspector Martin Hurcomb said: "This investigation is in the very early stages but we have acted swiftly to secure the scene and to arrest a number of suspects.
"Lozells Road is very busy and I believe there will be a number of people who may be able to assist us with this investigation.
"I would encourage anyone who witnessed any disturbances in this area earlier this morning, or who believes they may have information relevant to the inquiry, to give us a call as soon as possible."
