Factory fire could have been deliberate

[10 June 2008]

A fire at an abandoned factory in East Belfast is being treated as suspicious by police.

The fire ignited on Monday at the WJ Nelson premises in Grove Street. About 60 people were moved from their surrounding homes, but they have now been allowed to return. 10 fire crews were called to the scene. The Fire Service's Chris Kerr said that police could not rule out “deliberate ignition at this stage,” but the building's condition is not safe enough for investigation at this time.
