Man dies in Merseyside knife attack

A man has died after being stabbed in the Huyton area of Merseyside at approximately 9pm Tuesday evening [30 November 2011].

The victim, believed to be aged in his 30s, was stabbed in the neck before being taken to hospital. He died shortly afterwards. The incident reportedly occurred on Kingsway in Huyton.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out later. The victim is yet to be formally identified.

Murder inquiry launched

Merseyside Police have launched a murder investigation following the incident and they are appealing for information.

A Police spokesperson said: "Officers are appealing for witnesses after a man sustained a knife wound to his neck on Kingsway at around 9pm on Tuesday.

"At this early stage of the investigation the motive of the attack is not yet known and we ask anyone who has seen anything suspicious in the area at the time to come forward.

"The scene has been cordoned off for forensic examination and officers are carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area."
