Man jailed for animal cruelty after dog's body found in shopping trolley

A man has been given a jail sentence after magistrates in Pontypridd heard how he caused suffering to dogs at his home [7 October 2011]

45-year-old Jason Tillier was also banned from ever keeping animals again.

Tillier, formerly of Treorchy in south east Wales, will serve two sentences of 23 weeks and 14 weeks.

Trolley used as 'incinerator'

The court heard how an RSPCA Inspector had visited his home and found the body of a dog in a large plastic tub with blood on it. Another dog's body was also discovered in a shopping trolley covered in snow in the garden.

It was found that Tillier had used the trolley to burn the bodies of injured and dead dogs he owned.

A further dog was also found lame inside the property.

Magistrates heard how Tillier had subjected the animals to violence, repeatedly hitting one of the animals with a piece of scaffolding.

The court also heard that the 45-year-old had suffered a breakdown in 2010 and had been a dog-owner for many years without incident. In his defence, it was claimed that one of the dogs had been overly aggressive and it was killed in self-defence.

Case 'disturbing'

RSPCA Inspector Simon Evans said: "This has been one of the most disturbing cases I've ever had to investigate and I am pleased with this sentence."
