Man jailed for racist attack

[3 June 2008]

Graham Hislen made an unprovoked racist attack on a Polish waiter, and will now serve 19 months.

Mr Hislen, 29, pleaded guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court to the “racially aggravated assault” on the victim, Prezemyslam Chudy. He also pleaded guilty of being in possession of a lock knife. Mr Chudy, a waiter in Bar Italia in Lothian Road, had been walking home from work on 7 March when he was approached by Hislen and another man. The racial attack then broke out, but Mr Chudy was able to escape and call the police after running back to Bar Italia.
