Children's internet safety plan

An organisation designed to improve children's safety online will be launched today.

The UK Council for Child Internet Safety, which social networking websites and technology companies have joined, will promote responsible online advertising and attempt to shut down 'harmful' websites. It will also create a voluntary code for websites which feature users' content. The council will report to the prime minister and has membership of over 100 organisations, including Microsoft, Google, Facebook and O2.
