Rhys accused murderer named

The teenager accused of murdering 11-year old Rhys Jones has been named for the first time.
Sean Mercer, accused of murder, has turned 18 and so loses the legal protection which bans the names of accused jueveniles from being published. Mr Mercer, from Croxteth, denies the murder and will face trial next month, along with six others. Rhys died after he was shot in the neck on his way home from football practice last August. Five of the other accused have been charged with assisting an offender, while the sixth has been charged with assisting an offender and possessing an illegal firearm and ammunition.
