Supermarket stabbing was motiveless

[18 September 2008]

A 20-year old woman who was stabbed several times in a supermarket was the victim of a random and motiveless attack, according to detectives.

The victim is fighting for her life in hospital as a result of several stab wounds after the attack in Somerfield supermarket in Littlehampton, West Sussex. Witnesses described how the attacker repeatedly stabbed the victim in front of shoppers, leaving her with knife wounds across her body, including her neck and chest. A security guard jumped on the attacker and customers helped to stem the flow of blood from her wounds before paramedics arrived. A 21-year old man from Bognor Regis was arrested shortly after the incident.
