93 per cent of door staff licensed

[30 May 2008]

Investigators from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and police officers found 22 door staff working illegally in Sussex last week.

A total of 146 licensed premises were checked by the SIA and officers from Sussex Police and the UK Border Agency, in an attempt to tackle illegally working door supervisors across East and West Sussex. They checked 336 door staff, 314 of whom held valid SIA licences. The remaining 22 individuals were found to be working illegally. One doorman was found with a fake SIA licence and two doorman were arrested for immigration offences.

Jennifer Pattinson, an SIA Head of Investigation said: “We all share the same concern for maintaining public safety and SIA licensing of door staff contributes to that. Together, we can all tackle illegal activity in the private security industry. Door supervisors working illegally and those deploying them could face prosecution.”
