Man guilty of stab murder

[6 October 2008]

A man has been jailed for stabbing his ex-partner to death in a 'frenzied attack.'

Keith Prest, 49, denied murdering 48-year old Louise Evans to death in the car park of the women's prison where she worked teaching English to foreign inmates preparing for release. The mother-of-two was found with 43 stab wounds close to her car. During the five-week trial, the jury heard how Prest had been involved in a short-lived, stormy relationship with Ms Evans. After Ms Evans told Prest their relationship was over, he pestered her by leaving notes taped to her car and pushing letters through her letterbox. On the day he murdered her, he lay in wait in the car park before carrying out the "brutal and frenzied" knife attack. Prest then changed his clothes and disposed of the knife at a motorway service station on the M2. Unemployed Prest, or no fixed abode, was told he will serve a minimum of 18 years in jail.
