Sex offender prison toilets unacceptable

A prison for sex offenders on the Isle of Wight has been deemed unacceptable because inmates have been made to use buckets instead of toilets.
The sanitary system on five wings at HMP Albany are not up to 21st Century standards, according to Chief Inspector of Prions, Anne Owers. These claims arose from a report published last Thursday, following an inspection of the prison in November last year. The toilets have since been upgraded, but the Prison Reform Trust has blamed overcrowding for HMP Albany's problems. However, the report also found that the prison was chronically understaffed and that there were 'distant and mistrustful' relationships between staff and prisoners.
