Woman spared prison after poisoning husband

A woman who baked a poisoned fruitcake for her husband has been given a 12-month suspended prison sentence.

The 56-year-old woman of Cheltenham, Yvonne Godwin, put two teaspoons of rat poison into the cake before giving it to her husband, Robert Godwin. She pleaded guilty of attempting to poison with the intent to injure, aggravate, or annoy at an earlier trial. The judge was lenient in her case because she was in an abusive relationship.
