Landlord uncovers cannabis factory

A landlord discovered £80,000 worth of cannabis plants in a house he rented out to people he thought were restaurant owners.
John Leaver called Gwent Police after the locks were changed on the property in Caerlon. As well as the plants, they discovered £10,000 worth of cannabis-cultivating equipment.
There has been a four-fold increase in the number of 'cannabis farm' properties discovered in Gwent in the last year. The number of raids is increasing because criminal gangs can make more money and run less risk by growing cannabis in the UK rather than smuggling it in.
Earlier this year, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith announced that cannabis would become a class B drug again.
