Yorkshire ripper trying to win his freedom

[14 May 2008]

Peter Sutcliffe, who went on a killing spree through Northern England in the 1970s and 80s, is claiming that his human rights have been violated.

Sutcliffe is being represented by a leading London law firm, who believes that even though Sutcliffe was told he would serve at least 30 years, the tariff was never set. The criminal began his sentence in 1981 and three years later moved to a hospital after he was diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Sutcliffe's lawyer is trying to get him back into the prison system, thus allowing his sentence to be re-evaluated.
