Sunday 10 May
Do you know these men? On 3 and 10 January 2009, serious disorder took place in Kensington High Street, London, W8. This was the culmination of organised marches from central London protesting about the Israeli occupation of Gaza. On these two dates, over 50 police officers were injured; two were knocked unconscious and received serious injuries. Business premises were attacked causing an estimated £100,000 worth of damage. On both dates the disorder lasted for several hours with officers coming under sustained violent attack from people within the crowd. Officers were attacked with missiles ranging from pieces of wood, stones, bottles, pedestrian barriers, large metal clips and fireworks. There is police evidence to show that at least two members of the crowd came armed with sharp edged weapons. A knife was found embedded in the gatehouse near to where police lines had been.
