Home Office will work with Crimestoppers to combat gun and knife crime
[19th March 2007]
The Home Secretary John Reid has announced that the Home Office will work closely with Crimestoppers to ensure that the public have a route to give information about gun and knife crime following the recent spate of murders in cities across the UK.
Michael Laurie, Crimestoppers CEO said: "We welcome the opportunity to work with the Home Office and any other agencies to combat the prevalence of gun and knife crime. The increasing rate of deaths due to appalling acts of violence is shocking and we want to ensure that Crimestoppers is used effectively by all agencies, so that we can pass on all anonymous information we receive to the police and help get these criminals of our streets."
Calls to Crimestoppers are never traced or recorded and the caller does not ever have to give information about themselves. Crimestoppers is an independent charity, not part of the police, so callers can be confident that we will guarantee their anonymity.
