How does Crimestoppers make a difference in the fight against crime?

Crimestoppers continues to make an impact in all areas of crime across the UK. For instance, did you know that an average of 17 people a day are arrested and charged thanks to Crimestoppers' information?

Currently one person is arrested and charged for murder every 4—5 days because of calls to Crimestoppers.

The police tell us that 10% of murders in London are solved because of Crimestoppers information.

Last year (April 06 – March 07) Crimestoppers took over 80,000 calls. We passed on information which led to 6,208 people arrested and charged.

Anonymous calls to the charity led to the recovery of £4,363,842 of goods recovered and over £7,075,282 of drugs.

Other key results include:

  • 1,867 calls have been received about murder which has led 71 arrests
  • 1,620 calls on burglary have led to 217 arrests
  • 1,424 calls about firearms have led to 81 arrests
  • 22,298 calls on Class A drugs have led to 1,852 arrests

To date (22/06/07) Crimestoppers has taken, over 2,200 international calls and 280 logs have been passed to Leicestershire Police on the Madeleine McCann case.

Since the launch of Most Wanted in 2005, the site had attracted over 80 million hits. On average it continues to attract 4- 5 million hits a month. The result of this is that 17% of information now comes to Crimestoppers online via the anonymous Giving Information Form.

Most Wanted currently has 41 police forces and other agencies posting appeals and it has led to the arrest and charge of 60 serious criminals to date. There is an average of 100 appeals on the Most Wanted website at any time visit www.mostwanted-uk.org.
