Crimestoppers helps battle corporate crime
Crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers is tackling in-house corporate crime with the launch of its Integrity Line website for employees to report wrong doing in their workplace anonymously.
The Integrity Line - www.theiline.co.uk - allows employees to pass on information anonymously via a secure encrypted online form or by calling the Integrity Line which is answered by Crimestoppers call handlers. Information that is passed to Crimestoppers regarding criminal activity and breaches in company standards, is then sent securely to either the company's human resources department or Security Manager. Current clients include law enforcement agencies, banks and wholesale groups.
Managed by a team of dedicated staff within Crimestoppers' 24/7 call centre, the Integrity Line has an exclusive 0800 telephone number that can be generated for each company. With this service, clients can potentially save great expense and protect their reputation. One client was able to recover over £400,000 from just one telephone call.
Dave Cording, Crimestoppers' Director of Operations, said: “The introduction of the Integrity Line website further pushes the boundaries of Crimestoppers' work, allowing yet another route for people to pass on information about crimes anonymously. Unfortunately, with the deepening recession, it is highly likely that crime will increase, and as people spend so much of their time at work, we should all strive to make it a safer and pleasant environment to be in.”
The Integrity Line was launched in early 2006 and is already showing signs of success. This year alone, Crimestoppers has already received 58 actionable reports which were passed to organisations.
In January 2009, the Integrity Line was also launched in Jamaica, by the Jamaica Constabulary Force and Jamaica Customs as an anti-corruption line, in response to the growing public concern about high levels of corruption. The service is available to the general public in Jamaica and people are urged to ring 1 800 CORRUPT to pass information direct to the Crimestoppers UK Integrity Line. In the first two weeks, 12 actionable pieces of information were sent to the newly formed Anti-Corruption unit.
