Current campaigns
London's Most Wanted
Crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers has worked with the Metropolitan Police to create the London's Most Wanted website. London’s Most Wanted seeks the public’s help in the capital, the UK and around the world, to locate people who have committed, or are suspected of committing serious crimes, but who have so far evaded capture.
Child exploitation appeals: Most Wanted aids the CEOP Centre's campaign to find sex offenders
Crimestoppers is a proud partner of the the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre. We teamed up over the Most Wanted website to support their campaign to find missing convicted sex offenders in November 2006.
Five appeals were posted on the site and within hours of the site's launch Gordon Stewart, one of the five missing offenders surrendered to the police as the result of the widespread publicity. The website received over 8 million hits and over 1 million appeals were viewed by the public when the campaign launched.
To date fifteen offenders have been located.
Distraction burglary
Crimestoppers has been working on a distraction burglary campaign to help catch the perpetrators of these crimes. Distraction burglary is any crime where a falsehood, trick or distraction is used on a house to gain, or try to gain, access to the premises to commit burglary.
Football hooligans
Crimestoppers is working with the Football Policing Unit to publish photographs of individuals thought to be involved in violent disorder incidents during and after football matches on the Most Wanted website. We will now be asking the public to view these images and identify the individuals displayed.
The first batch of appeals to go live are 32 photographs of football hooligans involved in violent scenes at the FA Cup match between Hull City and Millwall on 24 January 2009 at the KC Stadium.
Maximum Impact on Crime
Yorkshire and Humber Crimestoppers are supporting Maximum Impact on Crime, a campaign to tackle criminals across the region. Police in West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and Humberside are coming together for a series of operations. They're targeting crime in communities, violent crime and domestic violence, criminal damage and stolen goods. If you think you can help, select 'Maximum Impact on Crime' from the drop-down menu on the Most Wanted home page. If you recognise any of the criminals featured, you can either contact the police directly, or if you'd prefer to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or fill out our anonymous online Giving Information Form. Crimestoppers is an independent charity and not part of the police. You will not be asked for any personal information such as your name and address and we cannot trace your call.
Operation Captura: Crimestoppers Campaign in the Costas
Crimestoppers launched the first ever campaign to target UK criminals living on the Costa del Sol. The Operation Captura campaign encourages anyone who recognises the wanted criminals on its website to call Crimestoppers from Spain, to give information anonymously on a dedicated Spanish free phone number 900 555 111. Calls are answered in the UK by Crimestoppers call handlers.
Crimestoppers worked with both UK and Spanish law enforcement agencies and the British Embassy to set up the operation. On the day of publicity launch in Malaga, Most Wanted saw eight times more people visiting the site, with 77,000 page impressions on the first day. Two weeks after the launch, over 700 calls had been received which produced 65 useful pieces of information. In 2008, Operation Captura 2 was launched with even greater success. 23 offenders have been located so far, for crimes including drug trafficking, murder and fraud.
In Spain, the concept has caught the public's imagination. The Spanish media have continued their interest and media coverage of the campaign. Commentators have expressed considerable interest in setting up a similar mechanism to aid Spanish investigations.
Operation
Infra - International fugitives
In June 2009, Crimestoppers partnered with Crime Stoppers International (CSI), in the first ever worldwide hunt for fugitives. The International Fugutive Round Up and Arrest (INFRA) operation is an initiative to help capture dangerous fugitives who have left their country of origin and are believed to be residing abroad. Working in partnership with the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) and the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), Crimestoppers UK appealed for information on 19 fugitives believed to be in the UK from several different countries including Poland, Georgia, Albania and Hungary.
Operation Return
Following the success of the Spanish fugitive campaign, Operation Captura, Crimestoppers is now appealing to the public to help identify six UK criminals known to be on the run in the Netherlands. Operation Return is a multi-agency campaign involving the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), Crimestoppers UK, Meld Misdaad Anoniem/'M' (Dutch Crimestoppers) and Netherlands law enforcement. The list includes some of the UK's most dangerous criminals wanted for crimes relating to drugs smuggling, the illegal sale of firearms, robbery, violence and rape.
The Sun
The Sun and Crimestoppers have teamed up to help capture some of Britain's Most Wanted criminals with appeals featured on The Sun's website as well.
