  • Amazon is supporting a new Crimestoppers campaign warning the public about the dangers of buying fake goods and how to spot them. Amazon aims to be Earth’s most customer centric company and this new campaign is part of our wider efforts to protect and support British businesses, and protect consumers.

By making consumers better aware of the risks counterfeit goods pose, we are supporting our activity in the UK and worldwide to ensure counterfeiters are held accountable, and stopping them from abusing Amazon’s stores or other retailers across the industry.

“We’re extremely proud to support this Crimestoppers campaign as part of our wider efforts to tackle counterfeit products, protect and support British businesses and consumers.

“Amazon works with brands and law enforcement around the world and groups like Crimestoppers to help rid the industry of counterfeit goods. In 2021, we identified, supported the seizures of, and appropriately disposed of more than 3 million counterfeit products, preventing them from potentially harming our customers or being resold elsewhere.

“We won’t stop until we drive counterfeits to zero in our stores, and this new partnership with Crimestoppers represents another positive step in the industry-wide fight against counterfeits.”

Grant Lucas Industry Specialist at Amazon UK

The work Crimestoppers and Altia do really does go hand-in-hand and I’m incredibly excited to see how our partnership develops."

  • The Joint Unit for Waste Crime (JUWC) is comprised of nine enforcement organisations: Environment Agency, the police, HM Revenue & Customs, National Crime Agency, Natural Resources Wales, Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Northern Ireland Environment Agency, British Transport Police, and the National Fire Chiefs Council.

We also have two partners that represent the waste industry – the Environmental Services Association and Chartered Institution of Wastes Management.

Through intelligence-led work, we work to reduce the impact of serious and organised crime in the UK waste industry, protecting the economy, environment, communities and UK infrastructure by targeting those criminals posing the greatest risk.

The approach is that of a true partnership. It does not matter which agency gets the final result; the aim is to make the waste industry a difficult place for criminals to operate in, through whatever means possible.

  • As a charity, Crimestoppers receives information on all types of criminal activity and wrongdoing. In many instances, this information can involve a commercial organisation. Morrisons have partnered with Crimestoppers to receive information that involves their supermarkets so that they can work to reduce crime around their estate with the aim of protecting their brand, their colleagues, and the neighbourhoods in which they operate. Morrisons understands the importance of information in protecting their business and local communities.

  • Our IP, rewards and information sharing services have helped Openreach deter and combat crimes against the company.

We work closely with their internal security taskforce to fight the damage and theft  of cables that disrupt their network and in turn affect local businesses, communities and emergency services.

“The information provided anonymously by members of the public via Crimestoppers is invaluable in bringing the people responsible for damaging our infrastructure to justice. Attacks to our network can leave local communities and businesses without vital telephone, broadband and TV services. Even the smallest piece of information, like a description of someone acting suspiciously, or a vehicle registration number, can help to catch the individuals responsible and prevent further attacks.

"Thanks to Crimestoppers, people from all around the country have been arrested and convicted, enabling us to continue to provide our services to the public.”

Mike Styles Physical Security and Behavioural Programmes Manager

In addition to this, we worked collaboratively to produce a short animation that highlighted the benefits of using the service (by phone or online). UKAD has been working with Crimestoppers since 2010. Thanks to a close working relationship, together we have been able to help raise awareness of UKAD’s vital Protect Your Sport campaign.
